Systems (NGMS) seeks to fill the position of Director Level 1 in the.
Engineering & Science function at the Marine Systems site in Sunnyvale.
California. The selected candidate will manage the Hardware Engineering departmentin Sunnyvale, California, which specializes in the design,manufacture, assembly and testing of missile launching and handling systems andpropulsion & power generation systems for naval surface ships andsubmarines. This role will have overall responsibility for the designdevelopment, production support and field service support of state-of-the-artsolutions in support of program execution, new business captures, and researchand development. This position includes management responsibility for severaldirect-report managers and technical staff, having overall influence spanning over200 employeesin the areas of Design (electrical and mechanical), Structural and Acoustic.
Analysis, Materials Engineering & Test Lab, and CADD. The selected candidatewill be responsible for providing the people, processes and tools to meet thecurrent and future needs of programs and technologies within the portfolios ofeach of the Operating Units. This role will provide the technical and peopleleadership needed to establish and maintain a world-class Hardware Engineering organizationacross multiple locations and programs. Primary responsibilities of the Hardware Engineering Directorinclude: Providing functional oversight across existingprograms as well as bid and proposal efforts for future work. Establishing and maintaining discipline-specificknowledge, processes and tools to achieve present and future business goals. Supporting the overall leadershipteam at Sunnyvale including the Director of Engineering to meet program objectivesand financial obligations for the business unit. Working collaboratively with theSEIT organization within Sunnyvale in order to meet the overall businessobjectives. Managing department budgets and achievingengineering financial goals. (Utilization Rates, Overhead Ratio, Expense.
Management etc.).Supporting the Annual Engineering.
Initiatives and helping to define and manage the ITA projects identified at thebeginning of the year. Supporting strategic discussionswith the leadership team during the Talent Reviews on identifying andmaintaining the talent pipeline. Supporting the Goals that areestablished by this position and the leadership team and ensure that mid-yearand end of year are fully completed and supportive of the needs the business. Facilitating and promoting affordability. Identifying and championing process and product improvement initiatives. Implementing and monitoring variousengineering metrics with attention to both shortcomings and strengths in such away as to allow lessons-learned and best-practices to be spread throughout the organization. Influencing the direction oftechnology discriminators to achieve competitive advantage for the business. This person must be able to focuson engagement and empowering the work force to help foster an environment ofintegrity, safe to speak up and challenging the status quo.

QualificationsActive Secret Clearance.
Engineering or STEM disciplinedegree required BS with 12+ years of experience, MS with 10+ years ofexperience, or PhD with 8+ years of experience.
Strong technical background withten years of experience in any combination of engineering disciplines and 5years demonstrated success managingtechnical teams.
Previous experience in people andtechnical leadership and functional management roles.
Working knowledge of staffing,engineering metrics, employee development, processes, and tools
The position will requireoccasional travel.
Preferred QualificationsMaster of Science in Engineeringor other STEM discipline.
Working knowledge of utilizing agiledevelopment techniques and management for hardware development.
Design and operational knowledgeof navy programs.
High proficiency in technicalproblem solving skills. Strong experience in leading/managingmanager of managers within an organization.
