Systems Engineering & DevOps Manager

Description

This position contributes to Starbucks success by collaborating with management, technical product managers, systems analysts, and engineers to plan, develop, and implement solutions that optimize and automate business operation and technology processes. The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure continuity and stability of Starbucks retail store platforms and systems, focused primarily on planning and replenishment, as well as store ordering and inventory management.

The person in this position will partner with various product management and engineering teams to establish efficient and effective processes that ensures application and system stability and reliability. Leveraging a passion in technology as well as problem solving to support availability goals and metrics through sound engineering principles will be one of the measurements of success. Ideally the person in this position would be able to work with third-party solution and delivery providers in implementing and supporting cloud-based and on-premise applications, and responsible for overall system stability and infrastructure reliability. Additional qualifications with leadership and technical skills implementing and supporting Microsoft Dynamics 365 both foundational and application modules, and experience delivering core product capabilities with Order Processing and Inventory Management among other Financial and Supply Chain modules are highly valued.

Summary of

Responsibilities

\:

  • Builds and matures a team of platform systems engineers making reliability, scalability, performance and security key pillars of success
  • Manages a platform reliability team with a passion for automation and an eye towards continuous stability improvements; oversees the incident management and response lifecycles; contributes to design and solution planning to achieve stable applications, systems, and integrations
  • Management of infrastructure both non-production and production environments whether on-premise or cloud-based hosted systems
  • Leads the platform reliability functions to define, plan and execute strategic roadmaps so that all systems and processes are fully automated, self-service, highly scalable, cost-efficient, observable, auditable and reliable as a standard practice
  • Creates and/or leads development of SOPs, SLOs, KPIs, and overall operationalization of assigned systems and services
  • Continuously manages and measures application and system health, performance, uptime, volume, and usage, while automating reports, dashboards through altering and monitoring
  • Provides rapid response and restoration of services, contributes to postmortem RCA, and drives long term corrections
  • Resolves escalated issues throughout the development, integration, configuration, and sustainment lifecycles
  • Manages triage efforts for hardware, software, and cloud-based issues
  • Partners with the technical product management team to help inform the priorities, as well as with the engineering teams to help design, solution and implement changes based on the reliability trends
  • Builds and maintains partnerships with all functions to ensure technology team members understand product needs, functional specifications, and user experience feedback
  • Manage a team of DevOps Engineers, prioritization of work, coordination and scheduling of activities, performance evaluations, goal setting, partner development
  • Hires, trains, and develops talent for growth opportunities; monitors team/individual's morale and engagement to maintain highly effective and collaborative environments
  • Participation of Agile team-based planning and refining activities
  • Influence and establish best in class engineering practices through solid design decisions and tools

Skills you should have

  • Self-learner and networking skills that are required to be successful in this role given the rapid evolution of the new platforms and tools
  • Experience working in managing Project with strong understanding of tools and automation frameworks
  • Experience in leading a team of advanced engineers to technical management, release engineering, tools engineering and DevSecOps
  • Experience in systems automation, virtualization, orchestration, continuous integration, deployment, and implementation
  • Experience installing and configuring on infrastructure, scripting for process automation, setting up and managing cloud and container orchestration and experience managing support systems
  • Experience in scaling distributed data systems, deploying and managing software in production environment and container-based service deployment using Docker and Ansible and ability to use various open source technologies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Impressive troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to take high-level requests, break them down to digestible tasks, and own them to completion
  • Experience defining infrastructure-as-code with Terraform
  • Experience using Azure DevOps
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly grasp new technologies
  • Must be action oriented, capable of multitasking well based on priorities
  • Strong team player who enjoys working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies

Qualification:

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of IT experience in software engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in an agile and product-based delivery environment
  • 5+ years of experience leading technical teams with direct report responsibility for\:
    • Engineering and hybrid solutions involving public and private clouds, preferably Azure
    • Experience using source code control systems
    • Experience with scripting language
    • Experience with SQL and No
      - SQL databases
    • Knowledge of Micro Service Architecture
    • Experience using/working with continuous integration systems
  • 5+ years of experience leading an Operation, SRE, or DevOps team with an established track record of high success
  • 3+ years of experience managing remote and global systems engineering teams
  • 3+ years of experience working with 3rd party vendors and/or software solution providers
  • 3+ years of experience in modern development practices delivering cloud-based applications and promoting progressive technologies within a DevOps culture
