Temporary Research Dev Engineer

TES employment includes medical coverage, paid vacation & sick time, paid holidays, as well as training and development opportunities DESCRIPTION The Research & Development Engineer (R&D) will participate and assist other engineers in the design and testing of instrument payloads to be deployed on unmanned research platforms (e.g. Autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) and unmanned surface vehicles (USV). They will assist in the testing, repair, and field deployment of oceanographic autonomous systems in remote locations. This R&D Engineer will develop and propose engineering plans and specifications for equipment and instruments with limited scope and complexity. The selected candidate will participate in fieldwork logistics of scientific research including purchasing of equipment and supplies, shipping/receiving of equipment, maintaining laboratory facilities, and interacting with non-University personnel. They will be expected to participate in field expeditions and laboratory measurements.
QUALIFICATIONS Experience on small boats and field efforts Experience with installation, configuration, and operation of electronic devices. Analytical skills to conduct analyses and develop appropriate recommendations. Proficiency for creating and maintaining documentation of system design and operation. Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office suite, web-based email and calendar applications). Ability to maintain a computerized appointment calendar in an accurate manner. Experience independently researching, compiling, organizing, interpreting and selecting data and materials from various sources. Strong organizational skills with demonstrated experience independently setting priorities, producing timely results and meeting deadlines, in a multiple demand work environment while maintaining a high level of attention to detail and accuracy. Computer programming, data analysis skills and experience are a plus.
